Split Airport (SPU) is located near Kaštela, about 20 km from Split and around 6 km from Trogir. Getting from the airport to Split city centre is straightforward, but the best option depends on your arrival time, luggage, group size and budget.
Split Airport to Split city centre: your main options
There are four practical ways to reach central Split: the airport shuttle, public bus, taxi or a pre-arranged private transfer. The airport officially confirms all of these options and notes that summer road traffic can be heavy, especially in the direction of Split.
1. Airport shuttle bus
The official airport shuttle runs between Split Airport and Split Main Bus Station. This is one of the simplest choices for solo travellers and couples because the city bus station is next to the ferry port and only a short walk from the Old Town.
Schedules can change with flight traffic and season, so check the latest timetable before arrival rather than relying on an old blog post or screenshot.
2. Public bus
Local public bus services also stop at or near Split Airport and connect towards Split and Trogir. Tickets can be purchased through the Promet Split app or directly on supported services. Public buses can be cheaper than a taxi, but may be less convenient with heavy luggage or after a late flight.
3. Taxi from Split Airport
Taxis are available near the main terminal during airport operating hours. A taxi is convenient when you want door-to-door transport without waiting for a bus. Travel time depends strongly on traffic, especially in July and August.
Always confirm the current fare or pricing method before starting the ride. Prices can change, so we do not recommend relying on old fixed-price figures found online.
4. Private airport transfer
A pre-arranged private transfer is usually the easiest option for families, groups, late arrivals or travellers carrying a lot of luggage. Your driver can meet you at the airport and take you directly to your accommodation rather than dropping you at the main bus station.
Croparadise guests can request a private transfer through our Split Airport transfer page. Send your arrival date, number of guests and booking reference so we can confirm availability and current pricing.
How long does it take from Split Airport to the centre?
The airport is only about 20 km from Split, but travel time varies considerably. Outside peak traffic the journey can be relatively quick, while summer congestion can add significant time. Split Airport specifically advises passengers to allow extra time during busy summer periods.
Where does the airport shuttle stop in Split?
The airport shuttle connects with Split Main Bus Station. The station is beside the ferry port and close to the railway station, Riva and Diocletian’s Palace, making it a useful arrival point for travellers staying in central Split.

Best option for different travellers
Solo traveller or backpacker
The shuttle is usually the easiest balance between simplicity and cost, especially if your accommodation is within walking distance of the Old Town.
Couple with light luggage
The shuttle or public bus can work well. A taxi becomes more attractive if you arrive late, are tired after a long flight or your accommodation is not close to the bus station.
Family or small group
A private transfer can be more convenient because everyone travels together and you avoid moving luggage between the airport, bus station and accommodation.
Large group
Arrange transport in advance. Large groups need suitable vehicles and last-minute availability is less predictable during peak season.
Late-night and early-morning arrivals
If your flight arrives late or departs very early, check transport availability before travel day. Public transport and shuttle schedules are not identical throughout the year. A private transfer can reduce uncertainty when arrival time is outside the busiest operating period.
