Marjan can be a short viewpoint outing or a much longer walk through the park-forest. Start by deciding which of those you want. For a first visit from central Split, our planning suggestion is a waterfront approach, the first viewpoint and a return with time left for the city; extend the route only when it suits your day.
Start with the waterfront approach
From your accommodation, make your way to the Riva and its western end. The Marjan Forest Park Visitor Centre is listed at Trumbićeva obala 18, beside the stairs leading towards Marjan. It is a useful orientation point; check current visitor-centre hours if you want to ask for information there.

Follow the signed approach and use the park’s own map for the route you choose. The walk involves climbing, so a central starting point does not mean a level stroll. Ask about suitable alternatives if stairs or uneven paths are a concern.
Choose one of three outing types
| Outing | Suggested focus | Planning check |
|---|---|---|
| First viewpoint and return | Climb for a view, take a break and return to the waterfront. | Allow time for the ascent and the same journey back. |
| Longer park walk | Continue on a selected marked route through the forest area. | Map the full route, access conditions and return point. |
| Bene beach visit | Choose an operating beach outing on the Marjan coast. | Plan the beach route separately from the first-viewpoint walk. |
A manageable first-viewpoint plan
Keep the first outing simple: approach from the waterfront, follow the stairs and signs to the viewpoint area, pause for the city view, then decide whether to return. You do not need to reach the highest point for the walk to be worthwhile.

As a scheduling allowance, set aside around one to two hours for a short outing with breaks, depending on your pace, starting point and the route. This is not a measured walking-time promise. If you only have a small gap before transport or check-in, choose a shorter city activity instead.
Extend the route using an actual map
The park offers paths and further viewpoints, but there is no single “Marjan walk” that fits every visitor. Choose your route before following a fork simply because another group is going that way.
The official Marjan audio guide includes mapped points of interest. Use it alongside signs and current park information, and decide where you will turn back. A cliffside or higher route is a different outing from a short first-viewpoint visit.
Bene and beach time
Bene has been refurbished and is operating, according to current CroParadise local information. It can be an alternative reason to visit the Marjan coast, but do not assume the beach lies next to the first viewpoint or that every viewpoint path is the right route to it.

Compare the walking and transport options for the actual destination, including the return. The beaches guide explains how to choose between nearby city beaches and a longer Marjan outing.
Prepare for the conditions and the way back
- Carry water and footwear that suit the selected route.
- Choose a time and route around heat, weather and available daylight.
- Keep your phone charged and the map accessible.
- Follow current signs, closures and park instructions.
- Leave room to descend and return instead of planning only the climb.
Take rubbish out with you and respect the park setting. If the route or conditions no longer suit you, turning back is a sensible change of plan.
Fit Marjan into your Split stay
Our three-day plan gives walking and beach time separate space. On a shorter visit, choose one main outdoor outing rather than forcing a long park walk and a distant beach into the same afternoon.
CroParadise units have different addresses. Check the location information and start your walking plan from the unit where you are staying, not automatically from reception.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to reach the summit?
No. Choose a route around the time and effort you want. A first-viewpoint outing can be the whole plan.
Is the route level?
The viewpoint approach involves climbing. Check a route that suits your access needs before setting off.
Can I combine the walk with Bene?
Possibly, but map the complete route and return first. The beach is a separate destination from the first viewpoint.
Where can I find a park map?
The official Marjan audio guide provides mapped points of interest. Follow it with current signs and park information.
