Split to Hvar, Brač and Vis: Choosing the Right Ferry

The island name alone is not enough to choose a ticket from Split. Hvar, Brač and Vis each require a plan for the actual arrival port and what you want to do afterwards. Start with the destination town, then select the sailing that fits your date, passenger needs and return journey.

Write the arrival port into the itinerary

Examples of Jadrolinija routes to check
Destination Route to investigate What it means for your plan
Hvar town Split–Hvar catamaran line 641. Arrival in Hvar town; check the selected date and departure.
Stari Grad on Hvar Split–Stari Grad ferry line 635. A different arrival point from Hvar town; plan onward travel if needed.
Supetar on Brač Split–Supetar ferry line 631. Arrival in Supetar, not directly at Bol or Zlatni Rat.
Vis town Split–Vis ferry line 602. Confirm the sailing and any onward island journey.

The cover image shows Zlatni Rat on Brač. It does not mean a Supetar ticket delivers you to that beach. Likewise, a ticket to Stari Grad and a ticket to Hvar town are not two names for the same port. Avoid adding an unplanned transfer after buying the boat ticket.

Choose the service for the way you travel

Decide whether you are travelling as a foot passenger or with a vehicle before searching. A passenger catamaran and a vehicle ferry are different products. Check the chosen service for vehicle transport, baggage rules and any special equipment rather than assuming all boats handle the same things.

Jadrolinija’s route pages list the services and current schedule information. Other operators may have different routes and conditions. Compare what your actual ticket buys, including destination and sailing date, rather than treating a generic search result as the final travel instruction.

Read the ticket rule for that route

At the time of checking, Jadrolinija describes Split–Hvar, Split–Stari Grad and Split–Vis tickets as reservations for the chosen departure. The Split–Supetar route page states that a ticket is valid for departures on the printed travel date. That difference matters: do not carry one route’s rule over to another. Read the current terms of the ticket you purchase.

Keep the booking confirmation available, check any presentation requirements and follow the operator’s boarding instructions. The departure berth and boarding time are operational details to confirm. A published departure time is not a suggestion to arrive at the port at that exact minute.

Build a return plan before paying

  1. Choose the town or activity you want to reach on the island.
  2. Check both outward and return services for the same travel date.
  3. Include any onward transfer on the island in your time and cost.
  4. Leave a realistic margin for boarding and getting back to the port.
  5. Check changes or notices again before departure.

An island outing that looks short on a map can become a full travel day once transfers and waiting are included. If the return is tight, choose a simpler outing or stay overnight rather than making a same-day plan depend on an unverified connection. Our car-free day-trip guide helps compare islands with mainland alternatives.

Questions before your stay

Does a Stari Grad ferry arrive in Hvar town?

No. They are different places on Hvar. Include the onward journey if Hvar town is your destination.

Does the Supetar ferry reach Zlatni Rat?

It arrives in Supetar. A trip to Bol or Zlatni Rat requires an additional plan.

Can I use every ticket on a later departure?

No common rule applies to every route. Read the selected service’s ticket and reservation terms.
